Dear Lawyer, I currently live in the United States. I’m going to work in Vietnam as a foreign expert of the manufacturing business. However, due to the complicated situation of Covid-19 epidemic in the world, I wonder if my family and I could entry to Vietnam? Do you think our entry need approval from Vietnamese state authorities?

Due to the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic, the foreigner might have difficulty in entering Vietnam with more stringent regulations, such as they must be subjects which are considered for entry, or get written approval of the competent Vietnamese state authorities,...
In particular, according current laws, before entering Vietnam, those who want to enter to Vietnam must have approval from the People's Committees of provinces and centrally cities (referred to as provincial People's Committees) about allowing foreigners to entry for work, visiting relatives, studying and approving plans and means of transportation and isolation; in case of isolation in other localities, they shall submit a written approval for the isolation organization of the provincial People's Committee of the place of isolation.
Additionally, the foreigners have to make other additional requests such as having a negative confirmation document for SARS-CoV-2 virus issued by the competent authorities in the period 3-5 days before departure. At the same time, electronic declaration must be done within 12 hours before departure, install the Vietnam Health Declaration and Bluezone apps.
Regarding your case, apart from the aforementioned procedures and requirements, if approved for entry, you must also carry out the procedure for applying for a work permit in Vietnam to work as an expert after the quarantine period has expired.
